1 hour in managing an effective program

3 hours in curriculum development

4 hours in positive guidance (behavior management) (3 of these hours relate to teacher/child interaction)

  1. Characteristics and needs of school-age children

  2. The elements of high -quality after-school programs that meet children's needs, including the use of space, involving children in planning, the relationship between adults and children, the adults' attitude

  3. Strategies to help children, especially school-agers, deal with cliques, bullying, disagreements, and fights

  4. Age-appropriate games and activities to encourage cooperation among children
