Children with Special Needs: Autism Spectrum Disorder Course Description:
[Please note: This course is
different from many of our courses because it requires TWO books. You
must read both the CourseBook, Children with Special Needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder, AND the textbook, Teaching Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You will not be able to successfully complete this course without BOTH books. Order these together below.]
This course applies to preschoolers.
Study the characteristics associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, how children with autism learn, how their ways of learning differ from those of non-autistic children; the function or reason for unusual behaviors of children with autism; and strategies to help children with autism achieve their highest potential in an inclusive classroom. Section on interaction with families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder included. See the course topics listed below for more information on what is covered. Note: this course includes activities to be done with children. The children do not need to have Autism Spectrum Disorder to do the activities. You may do these activities with ANY children -- those in a childcare or preschool setting, your own children, neighbors, relatives, etc, but you must do the activities with children to get credit for this course.
About the two book format: Coursebooks contain the quizzes, answer sheets and some information. Coursebooks are only available from Care Courses and every student must have his or her own copy of the Coursebook. Textbooks
contain important information and you must read the textbook to get
credit for the course. Students may share textbooks if they wish. Textbooks are available in the bundle below and individually from The Care Courses Bookstore.

Comments on Autism Spectrum Disorder:
"I received the book course in the mail just a few days after ordering it. Thank you for your promptness. My sister and I (both licensed childcare providers) have been doing care courses for years and think it is the best route to take. That way we have the books to refer back to if ever needed, or just to brush up on certain topics." - New Prague, Minnesota
“Your classes [Cultural Diversity in Early Childhood Programs,
Family Diversity, and Children with Special Needs: Autism Spectrum
Disorder] are awesome! I received the courses (book) very quickly and
completed one right away and started another. Your service is such a
wonderful way to get the continuing ed courses I need and get new
information instead of the same old stuff that "workshops and seminars"
offer. Thank you for the opportunities you afford to preschool
teachers.” – Cockeysville, Maryland
