Nonverbal communication plays a major role in interpersonal relationships and thus can help or hinder a child’s social success. Yet nonverbal language skills are seldom taught in a formal way. Using a wonderful textbook written by psychologists and educators who have done extensive research in this area, this course presents a variety of techniques adults can use to help children improve their nonverbal communication skills.

*This course uses the textbook Teaching Your Child the Language of Social Success and you must have a copy to do the course. If you do not have a copy of this book, you may purchase one from us for $14.00. More than one student may share the textbook, but every student must have their own copy of the course book Teaching Nonverbal Language Skills.

30 clock hours:

10 hours in child development

20 hours in behavior management

[10 hours in teacher/child interaction - these hours overlap with guidance and growth and development]

  7. Communication through the use of paralanguage and facial expressions

  8. Communication through the use of space, touch, gestures, and postures

  9. Communication through the use of rhythm, time, and objects

  10. Assessing and remediating nonverbal language deficits
