After completing Lesson 1, you will be able to:

Lesson 2: Principles of Children’s Learning

After completing Lesson 2, you will be able to:

  • describe the different ways in which children are intelligent and learn
  • explain the role of children’s own experiences in their learning and development
  • explain the value of experiences that involve more than one sense to children’s learning and development
  • explain how children’s development and learning move from the simple to the complex and from a lesser to a greater level of organization and internalization
  • identify strategies to provide a high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood program that are based on the strengths of each learner

Lesson 3: The Importance of Opportunity for Children’s Development and Learning

After completing Lesson 3, you will be able to:

  • explain the roles of practice and challenge in children’s development and learning
  • identify appropriate challenges for individual children
  • list activities that emphasize the role of success in children’s development and learning
